We hiked Cascade as a warm-up for Algonquin, which, while shorter than the epic slog up Marcy, is every bit as difficult owing to the steepness of a few key sections. Hence we opted for little shakedown.

Cascade is a relaxing, gentle hike and takes only a few hours. The summit is a citadel-like mound of rock that affords nice views of the high peaks in the distance. Miniature rock pools of rainwater on the summit and the mild scrambling required are also memorable. On our hike so was the weather, which had been building  all morning. We managed to get up and down well before it hit, but we got some nice video of the wind picking up:
